17 nabbed for gambling

Ludhiana: The police have arrested 17 persons on the charge of gambling in two raids. The police said 13 persons, identified as Akshay Kumar, Joginder Kumar, Lakhan, Rohit, Anil Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Darshan Kumar, Rohit Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Mani Kumar, Raman Kumar and Joginder Pal, were arrested from a house in Chhawni Mohalla. Cash worth Rs 1,48,500 and a pack of cards were seized from the spot. Meanwhile, Chhotu, Sunil Paswan and Shakti Sharma were caught gambling in a vacant plot near Jwala Singh Chowk in Haibowal. The police seized Rs 7,700 and a pack of cards from the spot. OC

16-yr-old girl goes missing

Ludhiana: A minor girl (16) has been reported missing from Chet Singh Nagar Colony here. Bishamber told the police that his daughter left home in the afternoon on July 27 without telling anybody about her whereabouts. He suspected that Ashok Kumar, a resident of the same colony, might have abducted the girl on the promise of marriage. The police have registered a case under sections 363 and 366-A of the IPC. OC

Three held with 40 cases of liquor

Ludhiana: The police have nabbed Sandeep Singh of Bhanukheri village in Ambala district, Amrit Singh of Arnoli village in Patiala district and Mehar Singh of Narwal village in Haryana, near the T-point of Transport Nagar under sections 61/78(2)/1/14 of the Excise Act for interstate smuggling of liquor. The suspects, employed with Gurman Rai Group of liquor contractors in Haryana, had brought liquor in a commercial vehicle sans a number plate to be supplied to Mohinder Singh and his accomplice. The police seized 40 cases (480 bottles) of whisky from the vehicle. OC

Drug peddlers arrested

Ludhiana: The Sadar police have arrested two drug peddlers, Sahil and Satish Gupta, both residents of Dhandra village, and booked their accomplice Bhupinder Singh, a resident of New Janta Colony, under sections 21/29/61/85 of the NDPS Act. The duo was caught with 235 gm of heroin. Their motorcycle was also impounded. OC
