Ludhiana: A man was allegedly kidnapped from Anarkali Market in Jagraon over some old enmity and brutally beaten up by three persons after being taken to some isolated place. After thrashing him, he was thrown at the new grain market by the assailants. The accused have been identified as Sagar Kalyan, Inderpreet Singh and Shani, all residents of Rani Wala Khu. The complainant, Sachin, who used to work at a garment shop, told the police that on May 24, the accused dragged him out of the shop and started beating him. “The accused attacked me with sharp weapons in the market. They took me at some isolated place, where they thrashed me again. They snatched my gold chain, silver ring and a mobile phone and threw me at the new grain market,” the victim alleged. Investigating officer ASI Chamkor Singh said a case has been registered against the accused. TNS

Three held with banned drugs

Ludhiana: The Khanna police have arrested three persons and recovered a huge cache of banned drugs from them in separate cases. In the first case, the Khanna Sadar police arrested two smugglers and recovered 100 banned medicines from them. The accused have been identified as Mewa Singh and Gurdeep Singh alias Motha, a resident of Bija village, Khanna. Investigating officer ASI Sukhwinderpal Singh said a naka was set up near Mandiala Kalan where on suspicion two bike-borne persons were asked to stop for checking. During the checking, banned drugs were recovered from their possession. In another case, the Khanna City police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 1,000 banned tablets from his possession. The accused has been identified as Gulab Ram. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Balwant Singh said a naka was set up on Amloh Road where a pedestrian, on suspicion, was stopped for checking. During the checking, banned medicines recovered from him. TNS
