Ludhiana, April 17

The anti-smuggling cell of the city police conducted raids on villages alongside the Sutlej and recovered 50,000 litres of ‘lahan’. The ‘lahan’ was destroyed on the spot.

The police booked eight persons —Khandi, Sukhraj Singh, Shinda, Jagdish Singh Modi, Maninder Singh, Chamkor Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Butti Singh.

Anti-smuggling cell in-charge Yashpal Sharma said raids were conducted on Bholewal Jadid, Rajapur, Khaira Bet and other villages.

He said the police also recovered other material used to distil illicit liquor.
