Ludhiana, June 9

Five persons rained bullets on the house of gangster Rishab Benipal, alias Nannu, last night. The armed men also entered the house and fired shots on the members of Nannu’s family. They, however, escaped unhurt.

As local residents started coming out of their houses, the assailants fled the scene on their two-wheelers.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Waryam Singh, along with a police party from Division 3, inspected the crime scene. On a complaint of Nannu’s uncle Raj Kumar, a case has been registered against the unknown assailants and further investigation launched.

Raj Kumar said all members of the family were about to sleep around 12.45 am when five armed men, who were on a motorcycle and a scooter, stopped outside their house. Before he could understand anything, they started firing shots at the house. They barged into the house and opened fire on the members of the family, but fortunately, no one was hit.

The ACP said the assailants were captured on CCTV cameras and they would be arrested soon. The cause of attack could be old rivalry.

Nannu was involved in brutal attack on youth

On the night of February 11, two Youth Congress leaders, namely Shubham Arora and Ankit Sharma, who were Youth Congress presidents from Central and East constituencies, respectively, along with others, attempted to kill Puneet Bains, alias Mani. A case of attempt to murder was registered at the Moti Nagar police station against Shubham Arora of Madhopuri, Ankit Sharma of Tibba Road, Sandeep of Bhamian Road, Rishab, alias Nannu, of Dharampura; Nihal, JP and seven unknown persons. The police suspect that Bains could be behind the attack.
