Ludhiana, June 24
The police have booked an ASI posted at Ferozepur on the charge of murder of 53-year-old brother-in-law. A taxi driver, Manmohan Singh, died in June 2016. The police had filed inquest proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC, suspecting that he died of cardiac arrest.
On a complaint of the deceased’s brother Harinderpal Singh, who lives in London, the Dakha police have registered an FIR against ASI Jaspal Singh now.
In his statement, Harinderpal Singh has alleged that the ASI wanted to get settled in the US with his family through Jasvir Kaur, wife of Manmohan Singh. He was forcing Manmohan to sell his land to bear visa expenses. When Manmohan refused to sell his land, the ASI murdered him, alleged Harinderpal.
The SHO, Jagdeesh Kumar, said a case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered against the ASI at the Dakha police station. The case was registered after forensic report indicated that Manmohan died of a head injury. The investigation is under way, he said.
