Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and Commissioner Shena Aggarwal on Monday reviewed the civic body’s monsoon preparations.

After the O&M officials shared information regarding the ongoing desilting of Buddha Nullah, MC Commissioner directed to get the work inspected. She instructed the officials to ensure the cleaning of Buddha Nullah and other drains in the city.

She instructed the Superintending Engineer concerned of the B&R branch to ensure the strengthening of the banks of Buddha Nullah.

During the meeting, officials of the O&M branch claimed that 90 per cent of road gullies have been cleaned in the city. The commissioner then directed the staff concerned to get the inspection of the road gullies. She asked the officials to ensure the cleaning of 100 per cent of road gullies.

The commissioner has given instructions to the staff sanitary inspectors for the management of solid waste. She also asked the officials to make arrangements for floodlights and portable generators in the low-lying areas where chances of rain-water logging remain high.

The officials have been instructed to inspect the sewerage manhole covers in the city and ensure the availability of around 2,500 manhole covers in stock in each zone.

The officials have also been asked to make arrangements for tractors, trailers, JCB and other machinery to handle any emergency during the rainy season. Moreover, the B&R officials have been asked to make arrangements for sandbags.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, Zonal Commissioner, Poonampreet Kaur and other officials.

In another meeting, MC Commissioner, Shena Aggarwal has given directions of the officials of different branches to speed up the recovery drive. A meeting was held to discuss the ongoing drive for recovery from the defaulters who did not pay property tax, water supply, sewerage or disposal charges etc.
