Bhamadi murder cracked, 4 nabbed

The Sadar police claimed to have solved the murder of a woman of Bhamadi village with the arrest of Harjinder Kaur, mother-in-law of the deceased; Beant Singh, a relative of Harjinder Kaur; and contract killers Jasvir Singh, who was nabbed by villagers on the spot, and his friend Gurpreet Singh Jagi.

Addressing a press conference, Khanna DSP Rajan Parminder Singh and Sadar SHO Baljinder Singh said Jasvir Kaur was shot dead by two persons at Bhamadi village on November 16. One of the assailants was nabbed by the villagers and later handed over to the police.

The DSP said during investigation, it came to light that Avtar Singh, husband of Jasvir Kaur, had committed suicide on the night of Diwali last year. His mother Harjinder Kaur held Jasvir Kaur responsible for the death of her son. Harjinder, along with her close relative Beant Singh, hatched a conspiracy to kill Jasvir. Beant hired Jasvir Singh and Gurpreet of Mianpur village to kill the woman.

Harjinder gave Rs 30,000 to Beant and promised to give him Rs 70,000 more after the murder of her daughter-in-law. Beant handed Rs 30,000 to Jasvir and Gurpreet.

On November 16, Jasvir and Gurpreet reached Jasvir Kaur’s house and shot her dead. They also injured a villager who tried to nab them. The villagers caught hold one of the assailants.

The police have also recovered the pistol used by the killers to kill the woman.
