Birthday party turns tragic, one dies in scuffle

Celebrations turned tragic at Mundian, Jamalpur, yesterday after an altercation between two friends over some issue resulted in the death of one of them.

The deceased has been identified as Mithun Kumar Lalli (23), a resident of Ram Nagar. A case under Section 304 (culpable homicide) of the IPC has been registered against the accused, Sundar Kumar (20), a resident of Ram Nagar.

According to the investigation officer, ASI Harbhajan Singh, in charge of police post of Mundian, Surinder Kumar had thrown a party for his friends as his son had turned one-year-old. They all went to some restaurant at GK Estate. Parshotam, Manoj and Pappu had also attended the birthday party.

After consuming liquor in excess, Sundar and Mithun indulged in heated arguments over some issue. In no time, heated arguments turned into a ghastly fight. Meanwhile, the restaurant owner intervened and told the duo not to fight inside the restaurant.

The duo went outside the restaurant and continued to fight. A blow from Sundar allegedly felled Mithun on the footpath resulting in a severe head injury. Mithun turned unconscious and was then taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The police arrested Sundar and produced him in the court. The police said the cause that triggered the fight was yet unclear and the accused will be taken on production warrant to investigate the matter.
