City-based schoolgirls emerge fastest runners

LUDHIANA: Kamalpreet Kaur and Ramaninder Kaur from Ludhiana finished ahead of others in the U-17 and U-19 category, respectively in 100-metre sprint.

Kamalpreet Kaur and Ramaninder Kaur from Ludhiana finished ahead of others in the U-17 and U-19 category, respectively in 100-metre sprint.

The duo were declared the fastest runners on the second day of the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Athletics Meet being held at Guru Nanak Stadium on Tuesday.

However, in the U-14 category, Simranjeet Kaur of Moga proved too fast to pip her immediate competitors to clinch a gold medal in the 100-metre race while Jaismine Kaur closely followed her at the second spot.

Similarly, in the U-14, 17 and 19 (boys’ category), Jaspreet Singh of Sangrur and Hapreet Singh of Jalandhar and Gurinder Singh of Moga came out triumphant in the 100-meter dash, respectively.

Over 3,000 athletes (boys and girl) from all the districts along with those from sports wings running at different schools across the state have been taking part in various track and field events in the sports meet being organised by the Punjab Education Department.

100-metre race (girls U-17): 1st Kamalpreet Kaur from Ludhiana, 2nd Ankita Pathak from Patiala and 3rd Rashdeep Kaur from Jalandhar

100-meter race (girls U-19): 1st Ramaninder Kaur from Ludhiana, 2nd Sanjna Bhardwaj from Jalandhar and 3rd Mahima from Hoshiarpur

5,000-metre walk (boys U-17): 1st Sahil from Jalandhar, 2nd Rajandeep Singh from Amritsar and 3rd Gurdeep Singh from Amritsar

High jump (girls U-14): 1st Jupinder Kaur from Patiala, 2nd Ramandeep Kaur from Fazilka and 3rd Ramanpreet Kaur from Bathinda

Discus-throw (boys U-14): 1st Arshdeep Singh from Moga, 2nd Joban Singh from Jalandhar and 3rd Akashdeep Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib

Shot put (girls U-17): 1st Jaismine Kaur from Ropar, 2nd Avneet Kaur from Hoshiarpur and 3rd Imroz Sandhu from Faridkot
