Covid-19: 2 succumb, 67 +ve for virus in Ludhiana

Two persons succumbed to coronavirus, while 67 tested positive for it in the district today. Now, the total number of people who have tested positive for Covid has gone up to 23,796 and the death toll has risen to 928.

Two persons succumbed to coronavirus, while 67 tested positive for it in the district today. Now, the total number of people who have tested positive for Covid has gone up to 23,796 and the death toll has risen to 928.

There are 721 active patients in the district, while 2,586 are home quarantined, out of whom 97 were sent for home quarantine today.

People are not paying any heed to Covid precautions. It is a matter of concern for everyone. Earlier, people were following Covid norms, which resulted in reduction of new cases in October-end. Many people have started avoiding wearing masks due to which the government has increased the fine to Rs 1,000.

Those who lost their lives today included a 70-year-old man from Gill Road who was admitted to GTB Hospital and was also a patient of diabetes. Another patient who breathed his last was a 55-year-old male from Bajwa Nagar and was also suffering from diabetes, hypertension and coronary artery disease. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

Out of the total 67 persons who tested positive today, 29 were referred from the flu corner, 13 from OPDs, 16 were contacts of positive persons, three were undertrials, one was an international traveller, two health care workers, one a patient of severe acute respiratory infection, while the tracing of two persons was in progress.

Meanwhile, continuing with the ongoing awareness drive to curb the second wave of coronavirus, the mass education and media wing (MEM) of the Health Department, Ludhiana, today collaborated with the Punjab Police to spread awareness regarding the goverment advisory on Covid.

Along with the Health Department’s team, the Punjab Police personnel issued challans to people found violating Covid norms during the drive.

Members of the awareness team and police personnel visited many areas of the city which normally witness a huge rush of people and motivated and appealed to the people to follow all norms and wear masks and maintain adeqaute social distancing to avoid getting challaned and to stay safe from Covid.

Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, said people were not paying any heed to Covid precautions now which was a matter of concern for everyone. He said earlier people were following Covid norms which resulted in the reduction of new cases being detected in the end of October, but lately people started avoiding wearing mask, due to which the government had to increase the fine to Rs1,000.

Rajinder Singh, block extension educator, said they visited the Chaura Bazaar, where they individually visited every shop and appealed people to follow all guidelines. During this awareness drive, people were also addressed in the market with a public address system along with an information education communication van.
