Ludhiana, September 25
The city police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves and recovered 13 two-wheelers from their possession. Besides, 25 stolen mobile phones have been recovered from them.
Those arrested have been identified as Sunny Bhandari (35) of Haibowal, Vishal Kumar (30) of Joshi Nagar, Brijesh Kumar (27) of Haibowal and Shiv Kumar Lambu of Dairy Complex. Their accomplices, namely Aman Sharma Kaka of Durga Puri and Shanty of Kartar Avenue, were yet to be arrested.
Additional DCP 1 Deepak Pareek, ACP (Central) Waryam Singh and SHO Satpal Sidhu addressed a press conference on the matter.
Pareek said the police received a tip-off that the suspects had formed a gang of vehicle thieves and they had been stealing two-wheelers from city areas. Accordingly, a naka was set up at a specific place where the four members of the gang were nabbed by the police.
During their questioning, 13 vehicles, including 10 Activas, were recovered.
The ADCP said the suspects were drug addicts and they stole two-wheelers to bear their expenses on drugs.
Pareek said police remand of the suspects would be sought from the court so that more recoveries of stolen vehicles could be made and the remaining members of the gang nabbed.
