GLADA, AAI officials discuss modalities of land transfer

The officials of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) prepared the ground and discussed modalities for the transfer of 161.27 acre land – acquired in Aitiana village for the construction of civil terminal of the proposed Halwara International Airport, in the name of JVC (joint venture company) to be set up jointly by GLADA and the AAI as per the MOU signed between the Punjab Government and the AAI for this purpose.

Project to start after JVC takes over land

The AAI officials indicated that work on the project would commence once the JVC took over the chunk of land. In the first phase of the project, development of a new international civil terminal over an area of 135.54 acres for full-fledged operations up to Code-4C type aircraft was proposed to be taken up.

The meeting, which preceded the site visit by the GLADA and AAI officials, was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal and attended by GLADA Chief Administration PS Gill, ACA Bhupinder Singh, STP MS Mann, Vikramjit Singh from AAI, SK Sharan, Airport Manager, Sahnewal and Hargobind Meena, Director, Adampur Airport.

GLADA ACA Bhupinder Singh told The Tribune that the possession of the acquired land had already been taken by GLADA and it had been transferred in the name of Housing and Urban Development Department, Punjab in the revenue record. The AAI officials had indicated that the work on the project would commence once the JVC took over the land. In the first phase of the project, development of a new international civil terminal over an area of 135.54 acres for full-fledged operations up to Code-4C type aircraft was proposed to be taken up.

Meanwhile, the Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh took stock of the status for construction of International Civil Terminal at Halwara Airport at Aitiana village on Monday and issued necessary directions to the officials. He said with the commencement of international flights from Halwara Airport on completion of the new civil terminal, the Raikot Assembly constituency would develop as a business hub and give a boost to the economy of the state.
