‘Harassed’ by ex-employer, woman commits suicide

A woman reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. She died last evening.

The deceased, identified as Simranjit Kaur, was allegedly mentally harassed at the hands of her former employer. The Model Town police have registered an abetment-to-suicide case against Amit Sethi. He is yet to be arrested.

According to information, the deceased’s mother Sukhdeep Kaur told the police that her daughter was a receptionist at a factory of the suspect in 2016 where both became friends. The suspect was married. Her daughter had to quit the job due to harassment at the hands of her employer in 2019. She later got married to another person.

“Despite my daughter getting married to another guy, the suspect continued to harass her, and when Simran’s husband came to know about her old relationship, their marriage turned sour and Simran divorced her husband,” said the woman.

The deceased’s mother revealed that her daughter took up a job at a beauty parlour in Model Town. The suspect continued to visit the parlour to mentally harass her. On February 19, he called her daughter and asked her for a meeting. “When my daughter went to meet the suspect on February 19, she also took along some poisonous substance. The moment accused came to the parlour, my daughter consumed the poison. He shifted her to the nearby hospital where she died last evening,” she said.
