Health Dept to give yoga training to residents

The Health Department will impart yoga training to city residents at the Health Wealth Centres on June 21. Special training sessions to train community health officials are being held these days at the Civil Hospital.

The Health Department is making efforts to ensure that people get treatment through yoga rather than medication. On the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21, a large number of people would be connected to yoga.

Giving information, District Family Welfare Officer Dr SP Singh said the Health Department had decided to hold yoga training sessions in all 100 health wellness centres of Ludhiana district. A special training session for all community health officers in this regard was organised at the Civil Hospital here on Friday.

On the occasion, Dr Mohandeep Kaur, AMO, Dr Hemant Kumar, AMO, yoga teacher Ashok Goyal and Devi Dyal imparted training in yoga from 7.30 am to 8.30 am today. On the occasion, all community health officers were asked to ensure that a large number of people in their respective areas were connected with yoga on June 21.

Dr SP Singh said not only the health wellness centres but such functions would also be organised in other health institutions of the district so that a large number of people could get connected with yoga and lead a healthy life.

He said special yoga classes were being organised daily at the Civil Hospital. A large number of patients and their relatives were also taking part in the programme as well.

He said the Health Department was planning to start the yoga training programme in all community health offices, health centres, dispensaries, etc. He informed that Civil Surgeon Parvinder Pal Singh Sidhu had directed the Health Department officials that at places where Ayurvedic Medical Officers were deputed, their maximum use should be taken so that a large number of people could benefit from them.
