LUDHIANA: A team of the Health Department inspected a mustard oil manufacturing unit at Khanna on Tuesday. Food Safety Officer Yogesh Goyal claimed that information, such as “best before date” and “free from argemone oil”, was not mentioned on the packaged oil.

Three samples of different brands were also collected from the unit, he said. He said: “We have seized all labels of the two brands. The unit had not maintained record about pest control and workers’ medical. An improvement notice has been served on the firm.” TNS

Woman booked for abetting  suicide

Ludhiana: The Koom Kalan police booked a woman on the charge of abetting her husband’s suicide. She is a resident of Jai Singh Nagar. The complainant, Baldev Singh of Naginder Nagar, said his son Gurmel Singh got married in 2011. On September 8, his son called him up and said he was depressed due to her wife, so he was going to end his life. He later switched the mobile off. He said when they started searching for his son, his body was found floating in the Sutlej. The woman is yet to be arrested. TNS

Man booked for abducting girl

Ludhiana: The Moti Nagar police booked a man on the charge of kidnapping a minor girl. The accused has been identified as Mukhtar Alam of Sherpur Kalan. The complainant, Pratima of Muslim Colony told the police that on August 26, she had gone to the market to buy some household items. When she returned home, she found her daughter missing. She came to now that her daughter was kidnapped by Mukhtar. The police are searching for the accused. TNS

3 more FIRs against Ghai

Ludhiana: Notorious travel agent and the owner of an immigration firm, Nitish Ghai, faced three fresh FIRs. Notably, Nitish has already been arrested by the police and has been facing more than 50 FIRs of travel fraud. In the latest case, one Nirmal Singh of Kaithal, Haryana, told the police that the accused took Rs 31,000 from him to arrange a work permit of Canada, but he failed to fulfil his promise. In the second case, Amrik Singh and Sukhbir Singh of Haryana alleged that the accused took Rs 1.60 lakh from them, but failed to arrange a visa. In yet another case, complainant Ankush Kumar of Himachal Pradesh alleged that the accused duped him of Rs 1.30 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. 

Woman goes missing

A woman went missing under mysterious conditions. On the complaint of her husband, Anil Mathur of New Prem Nagar, the police have booked one Dharminder for keeping her in wrongful confinement. He said the accused illegally kept his wife in wrongful confinement. The police have launched a manhunt. 

Softball tourney

Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, and Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School, Janta Nagar, set up the title clash in the 18th Sub-Junior Ludhiana District Softball Tournament being held at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Tuesday. In boys’ section, BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, and DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, overpowered their opponents to settle for the summit clash. Gill village school girls blanked Government High School, Kasabad, 10-0, while Janta Nagar students routed Government High School, Sherpur, 10-0, and edged out BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, 4-0. In boys’ section, BCM School, Focal Point, overwhelmed GSSS, Gill village, 12-2, whereas GHS, Kasabad, thrashed GNIPS, 15-3, and defeated DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, 12-0, to confirm a berth in the final. In the hard-line cup match in boys’ section, Government Senior Secondary School, Gill village, survived a scare against DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, before scraping past 9-8 to secure a bronze medal. 1 held with 70-kg poppy husk

Khanna: The Doraha police have arrested one person and recovered 70-kg poppy husk from his possession. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Boani village near Doraha. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said a police party led by Doraha SHO Hardeep Singh, during a checking at Gurthali Canal Bridge, Doraha, stopped a suspected car coming from Boani side. During the search, 70-kg poppy husk was recovered from the car. A case under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The accused will be produced before the court for further action. OC

Acupuncture team to visit China

Ludhiana: A delegation of 10 Indian acupuncture experts from different parts of the country, including Dr Inderjit Singh, Director, Dr DN Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital, Dr Neha Dhingra and Dr Chetna Chopra also from Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital, Ludhiana, has been invited to China under an exchange programme from September 12 to September 21. The delegation will be visiting various leading institutions of China. This visit will help the Indian acupuncture experts to enhance their knowledge in Chinese acupuncture with latest techniques. The delegation members will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou-based traditional acupuncture centre and university.TNS

Blood donation camp held

Ludhiana: A public health awareness programme and blood donation camp was conducted with the help of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital by Utkal Samaj at Shri Jagan Nath Temple, Chandar Nagar. As many as 100 patients were examined during the camp by a team of doctors from the DMCH. As many as 26 people donated blood on the occasion. All present were educated about good eating habits and things to be avoided to live a healthy life. They were also educated about the benefits of various medical insurances and government schemes providing medical facilities to the general public. TNS
