Ludhiana, August 23

Jalandhar beat Ludhiana by 9 runs (D/L method) in the ongoing one-day cricket tournament for the FC Mittal Trophy at the Punjab Agricultural University ground here today.

Jalandhar captain Abhishek Gupta won the toss and decided to bat first. They made 196 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 49.2 overs when it started raining.

Their innings revolved around Gourav Chaudhary and Arjun Verma, who chipped in with 69 and 35 runs, respectively, while Prerit Dutta and Shubek Gill too made useful contributions of 21 and 20 runs, respectively.

The match was resumed after more than two hours with the revised target, Ludhiana needing 146 runs to win in 29 overs.

The hosts were off to a cautious start with the opening pair of Sunny Pandey and Jaish Jain adding 62 runs before the latter was out for 34. But two more quick wickets, forced Ludhiana into shackles.

However, Sunny continued to hold one end and remained unbeaten on 56 runs but this could not help Ludhiana make the required runs and eventually they could muster 136 runs after flossing four wickets in 29 runs, losing it narrowly.
