Days after a road portion caved in on the Kaka Marriage palace road, a big crater appeared outside a house at Dugri, Phase 2, today. Around 10 to 20 feet long portion of land, which was used as green belt outside a house, caved-in after rainfall in the city.
After getting information, officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) reached the spot to take necessary steps. MC sub-divisional officer Arshdeep Singh said an old dart sewer (made of bricks) passed beneath the caved in portion. The dart sewer was more than 40- year-old, he added.
“We received a call from a resident about cave-in. We reached the site and took required steps. The work has been started to repair the damaged sewer lane,” he said.
Sewer overflows on Panj Peer Road
Residents suffered once again after stinking water accumulated on Panj Peer Road. As the downpour started, the main sewer lane began to overflowand within a short span water accumulated on the road. The area falls in Ward No. 78 from where Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu has been elected as councillor. However, the MC has failed to resolve problem of overflowing sewer in this area despite repeated complaints by residents.
Roof of house collapses
MLA Simarjit Singh Bains said roof of a house at Guru Arjun Dev Nagar collapsed after the rain started today morning. The house belongs to Gurdev Kaur, who has appealed to the MLA to help her. Articles in the house were also damaged. Meanwhile, Bains assured Gurdev Kaur that he would get her compensated for the damage to house.
