Ludhiana, June 16
The Fastener Manufacturers Association of India (regd) has initiated a tree plantation drive and its members pledged to plant more and more saplings in the city.
Narinder Bhamra, president of the association, said it is the need of the hour to grow more trees to save the coming generations from global warming.
“It is only nature (trees) that provide us free oxygen. If we look at the commercial angle of procuring oxygen then a person inhales oxygen equivalent to three cylinders and the cost of one cylinder is Rs 700 and for three cylinders it comes to Rs 2,100 that means Rs 7,66,000 per annum per person is the cost of oxygen. If we calculate average life of a person 65 years then approximately the cost of oxygen would be about Rs 5 crore. That is the value of air, which we get free of cost from plants,” said Bhamra.
The members were requested to grow at least 10 trees and it was possible only if after-care of saplings is done with utmost care. Besides, the members of the association also promised to deliver free trees to interested members and other industrialists.
