Ludhiana, March 15

Ludhiana girls stamped their supremacy and emerged as champions in the 25th edition of the Junior Punjab State Softball Championship held here at Guru Nanak Stadium.

The final, played between hosts Ludhiana and Ferozepur, turned out to be a one-sided affair in which the former faced a little challenge and came out triumphant 13-3 to lay their hands on winners’ trophy.

Earlier, in the semi-finals, Ludhiana and Ferozepur warded off stiff challenge from their respective opponents.

Ludhiana toiled hard to pip Moga 3-2 while Ferozepur survived many anxious moments against Fazilka, whom they overpowered 5-4 to secure berths in the summit clash.

Besides Ludhiana, 11 teams — Gurdaspur, Mansa, Ferozepur, Patiala, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Moga, Fazilka, Sangrur, Bathinda and Mohali — battled it out for top honours.

In the match for hard-line cup, Fazilka drubbed Moga 8-4 to secure third position.
