Ludhiana scripted an emphatic 10-wicket victory over hosts Kapurthala in the fourth and last league match of group B and secured a berth in the quarterfinals in the ongoing Punjab State Inter-District (U-16) Cricket Tournament.

The two-day match concluded at Kapurthala district cricket ground on Wednesday. Two top teams from each group qualified for the last stage.
Ludhiana with 16 points from four matches topped the group, while Nawanshahr and Mohali with 10 points each from as many matches were tied at second spot. However, on the basis of better run-rate, Nawanshahr made it to the knock-out stage.
Ropar and Kapurthala got nine and four points, respectively, and finished at the fourth and fifth place.
On Wednesday, in reply to Kapurthala’s first innings score of 107 runs, Ludhiana resumed their innings at overnight score of 158 for 8 and went on to post 189 runs in 73 overs, taking a lead of 82 runs.
Ludhiana’s innings revolved around Armaan Walia and Savinay Kakkar who made 45 and 42 runs, respectively, whereas Kunal Sharma and Sehbaj Inderpreet Singh captured four and three wickets for Kapurthala.
Enjoying a considerably decisive lead, Ludhiana restricted Kapurthala’s second essay to 136 runs in which the main contributors were Diven Plah and Sehbaj Inderpreet Singh.
For Ludhiana, Kirat Dhawan was the wrecker-in-chief, taking five wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs.
Needing just 55 runs for an outright win, Ludhiana made the required runs without losing a wicket.
