Ludhiana, July 16

A resident of Jagirpur, Rahon Road, lost his life and 57 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the district today. At present, there are 488 active cases in the district. The death toll has reached 40.

The 55-year-old deceased was also suffering from peritonitis. He breathed his last at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

Those testing positive today include an ASI from Mullanpur Dakha, a policeman posted at the control room in the Police Lines, and a CIA-I cop. Two pregnant women from Vijay Nagar on Pakhowal Road and from Kabir Nagar on Daba were found infected.

A 44-year-old healthcare worker from Gill village, a worker of SPS Hospital Hostel, who belongs to Kerala, and workers from Mundian Kalan, Libra village, Chandigarh Road and Mundian Khurd were found infected.

A 22-year-old resident of Nai Abadi and a 35-year-old man of Narottam Nagar, Khanna, have tested positive. Both have been shifted to the Covid Care Centre at Meritorious School, Ludhiana. Their contact-tracing is in progress. The number of cases reported from Khanna town is 80.

Many others testing positive are cases found during contact-tracing. They are from Chet Singh Nagar, Mahon village, Mullanpur, Gill village, Doraha, Jeevan Nagar, Urban Estate and Mall Road.

Twenty people with influenza-like infection have also tested positive. They belong to Mullanpur, Ganesh Nagar, Dugri, Green Field, Prabhat Nagar, Sarabha Nagar, Rishi Nagar, Narotam Nagar, Model Town Extension, Kundanpuri, Ekta Colony, SBS Nagar, BRS Nagar and Model Town.

Till now, 17,138 persons have been kept under home quarantine in the district and the number at present is 2,641. Today, 194 persons were asked to home-quarantine themselves today.

Contact-tracing training

A special training was organised on contact-tracing at Civil Surgeon office. The experts were Dr Anurag and Dr Samuel, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, DMC and CMC, Ludhiana.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said in this crucial time, they couldn’t afford to leave any stone unturned and they were working hard to trace each and every person in the Covid chain.

Dr Bagga said the Health Department was conducting 1,000 Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reverse (RTPCR), Truenet and anti-germ rapid tests on a daily basis.


Report Covid-19 violation on WhatsApp

The city police have released a WhatsApp number where people can inform about the curfew violations and quick action would be taken against the violators. People can send videos or photos of violators on this number. Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said, “Public can report Covid violations in Ludhiana on our WhatsApp number 9115601159. They can also email videos of the violation at [email protected].” Agrawal said 30 people were allowed to gather at a marriage function only and gathering this large was not allowed in any other functions related to the marriage. At other events such as religious functions, birthday parties, kitty parties or any other function, no more than five persons can gather. On Wednesday, nine FIRs of Covid-19 violations were registered.
