Ludhiana: 'Vehra' owners given month's time to ensure cleanliness

Poor sanitary conditions outside a vehra at Giaspura in the Zone C area of the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, April 12

The Municipal Corporation has issued directions to the property owners concerned to ensure cleanliness in their vehras/quarters and PGs located in Zone C within one month otherwise action as per law will be taken against them. MC’s Zone C Commissioner Poonampreet Kaur has issued a public notice in this regard.

All owners of vehras and PGs have been asked to instal proper filter for water drainage so that no solid waste can move into the sewerage line. MC officials said the sewerage system generally gets choked due to the dumping of plastic carry bags and other solid waste in sewerage pipes. Overflowing of sewers is a major problem in various parts of the Zone C.

The vehra owners have also been directed to deposit their property tax, water supply and sewerage charges and building compounding fees/arrears within one month.

The officials said the teams from Zone C would conduct checking of the vehras/quarters after one month. And, if any violation was found, required action would be initiated against the owner concerned. FIR would also be registered against those property owners who failed to follow the directions, the officials added.
