Man arrested on charge of rape in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, July 17

A woman was raped by a man in the Shimlapuri area. The suspect has been identified as Baldeep Singh, alias Monu, a resident of Phillaur.

The complainant told the police that she got married to a resident of Phillaur about 11 years ago. The suspect, who lives close to her in-laws’ house, became friends with her. Later, he started forcing her to get intimate with him.

Baldeep had been raping her under threat for the past two years. He also demanded money from her, the victim alleged. She, along with her son, shifted to her parents place in Shimlapuri but Baldeep didn’t budge. On July 16, when she was alone at home, he came on his bullet motorcycle and barged into her house. He forcibly stripped her and raped her. While leaving he threatened that he would kill all her family members if she revealed the incident to anybody.

Sub-inspector Simranjit Singh said a raid was conducted following a tip-off and the suspect was nabbed. — TNS
