MBBS curriculum: Online training for faculty at CMC Ludhiana

Ludhiana, July 4

The Medical Council of India (MCI), nodal centre for faculty development, Christian Medical College (CMC), here is training 40 faculty of various medical colleges of the country in a two-day online curriculum implementation support programme (CISP), phase II, for the new MBBS curriculum.

Dr William Bhatti, Director, CMC, inaugurated the programme along with Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian, principal, CMC.

Dr Bhatti said the CMC had been training the faculty of medical colleges for better implementation of the new MBBS curriculum and online training had been started due to Covid. Dr Pandian welcomed all participants who joined the online training.

He said the team of the CMC had been trained online by the MCI and this team would online train faculty of medical colleges allocated to the MCI nodal centre, CMC.

Dr Dinesh Badyal, professor, Department of Medical Education and convener of the MCI nodal centre, said the CISP phase 2 training, was halted due to Covid. However, as the new MBBS curriculum has been implemented in the country in 2019, the new batch will enter 2nd year and faculty of medical colleges is being trained online.

In 2019, the CMC trained approximately 900 faculty of medical colleges for the CISP phase 1 training. The CISP-2 is the first online faculty development programme for allocated colleges following the social distancing norms by resource faculty. Dr Badyal is the national convener, CISP, conduct, and member, MCI expert group for implementation and monitoring of new curriculum.

He said the continuity of doctors’ training was required for the proper implementation of the new curriculum. Dr Anjali Jain, co-convener and in-charge, CISP, said the online methodology being used includes interactive sessions and breakout sessions where a large group was divided online into small groups for group activities and online skills training. — TNS
