The Municipal Corporation today issued 10 challans to violators of the ban on single-use plastic items in the city. Single-use plastic items are being openly used in the city.

Two challans were issued against meat shops for illegal slaughtering.

Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Zonal Commissioner, MC Zone D, said the challans were issued to violators in BRS Nagar and Haibowal areas. He said the drive was conducted against single-use plastic and illegal slaughtering in these areas.

As per notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, New Delhi, there is a complete ban on manufacturing, stocking, distribution, sale and utilisation of single-use plastic from July 1 onwards.
