Members of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) slammed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and contractor concerned for poor carpeting of a link road near Preet Palace.

They alleged that two persons received injuries after their motorcycles slipped on the newly carpeted stretch a few days ago.

According to information, a portion of the road was recently carpeted near Chevron Hotel and Preet Palace. The road had started to peel off a day after carpeting, but the authorities concerned failed to keep a tab on the contractor and poor construction material.

Kumar Guarav of Yuva NGO said, “Members of various NGOs visited Senior Deputy Mayor’s office today. Earlier, we thought that the road was carpeted by the civic body, but it comes under the National Highways Authority of India. We asked the NHAI officials to visit and inspect the newly carpeted road. The officials and contractor concerned have assured us that the stretch will be repaired at the earliest.”

A shopkeeper in the area said, “The road was carpeted at night and it started peeling off next morning. The gravels have scattered on the entire road. The officials must get the road repaired to avert mishaps.”
