Residents along with councillor of Ward No. 31 staged a protest at the Zone D office of the Municipal Corporation (MC) here on Friday. They also raised slogans against the civic body for ignoring issues of their ward.

The protesters blamed the MC authorities for ignoring problems in their area, including overflowing sewage and unsanitary conditions, which had made their lives miserable. The residents sat on a dharna for around two hours at the civic body office seeking early redressal of their grievances.

The Municipal Councillor of Ward No. 31, Sonia Sharma, alleged that the civic body had deployed over 60 sweepers as per the list, but only 16 to 17 of them visited the ward in routine.

“No development works are being conducted in the areas under Ward No. 31. When we complain to officials concerned, they usually ignore our issues. We are forced to stage a protest,” she said.

Notably, Sonia Sharma had also staged a protest outside the MC Commissioner’s office in Zone D on Thursday. The protesters also demanded a fair inquiry into the working of absent sweepers. After getting assurance from the Mayor that their issues would be resolved at the earliest, residents ended their protest.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said he would talk to the MC Commissioner regarding the issues of Ward No. 31. He said the matter would be resolved soon.
