Ludhiana, September 9

Infuriated over “contaminated water” being supplied to different parts of Atam Nagar, a group of residents reached the MC’s Zone D office this morning and started brushing their teeth on the premises to mark their protest. One of the protesters, Gurjit Singh Shinh, even took bath there. The protesters then sat on a dharna for few hours.

The residents claimed that the water being supplied to different parts of the Atam Nagar constituency was contaminated, due to which they were forced to visit the MC office to awaken the authorities concerned.

They also brought bottles filled with contaminated water, which they claimed to have collected from taps connected with the MC’s water supply line. They also challenged the MC officials to drink the water being supplied to their area.

Shinh, a resident and politician from the Atam Nagar area, said they had complained to the civic body multiple times but the officials took no concrete steps to get the problem resolved. “Contaminated water is being supplied to my house, located in Ward Number 49, for the past 20 days. Sewage is getting mixed in the water supply line. Neither the MC nor Atam Nagar MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains has paid any heed to the issue. Thus, we were forced to stage the protest today,” he stated.

Giving a warning to MC, he said that if the problem was not solved, women from the area would visit the MC office on Friday and wash clothes there, Shinh added. Superintending Engineer (O&M) Ravinder Garg could not be contacted for comments.
