Sidhu to lay stones for projects worth Rs 565 cr today

LUDHIANA: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu would lay the foundation stones for various development projects worth Rs 565.62 crore (MC works worth Rs 122 crore and LIT works worth Rs 443 crore) in the city tomorrow.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu would lay the foundation stones for various development projects worth Rs 565.62 crore (MC works worth Rs 122 crore and LIT works worth Rs 443 crore) in the city tomorrow. According to information, the minister would jointly inaugurate these projects under the MC and LIT during an event at Hotel Park Plaza.

It was learnt that LIT had sent a list of projects worth Rs 400 crore while the estimated cost of projects under the MC is about Rs 122 crore.

The minister would lay the foundation stones for modernisation of municipal slaughter house at an estimated cost of Rs 19.50 crore as well as development of infrastructural works under the District Urban Mission worth about Rs 31 crore. Besides, he would inaugurate the construction of a stadium at Daba, smart toilets under the Smart City Mission as also work to cover the nullah from Transport Nagar to Shingar Cinema bridge.

Superintending Engineer of LIT Rakesh Garg said they had sent a list of projects to the civic body. The projects under LIT include installation of static waste compactors, open garden gyms in constituencies, development of three leisure valleys, construction of multi-storey flats in the 8.80-acre scheme and construction of a smart school at Kidwai Nagar. Besides, the foundation stones for a primary school, a fire station and a community centre under the dairy scheme are also to be laid by the minister.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said the tenders for various development works worth Rs 65 crore had been floated by the civic body while work orders would be issued by the end of this month. He said the minister would lay the foundation stone for these development projects worth Rs 565.62 crore.

District BJP vice-president Parminder Mehta slammed the Congress government and the MC for delaying the projects such as railway over bridge/railway under bridge on Pakhowal Road, installation of static waste compactors and others. “The Chief Minister and Local Bodies Minister had earlier laid the foundation stones for various development projects that could never see the light of day. They must answer when these projects will be started,” he said.
