The police have arrested an operation theatre technician of the Sumit Sofat hospital on College Road for secretly fitting cameras inside the operation theatre to record objectionable videos of patients.

He has been identified as Hardeep Singh, a resident of Malerkotla, Sangrur.

The complainant, Dr Inderpreet Pal Singh, who works at the hospital, told the police that around 4.30 pm on March 22, a man entered the hospital and handed a box to the hospital manger, Gurpreet, telling him that someone sent it for Dr Sumit Sofat.

“The manager brought that man to my office. When I asked for his identity, he said he was a rickshaw-puller. He said a turbaned man paid him for delivering the box to Dr Sumit,” said the complainant.

There was a pen drive in the box. When the pen drive was opened on a computer, they were shocked to see the videos of naked patients in the recovery room, he said.

Hardeep had been sacked from the hospital in February this year. Hardeep had allegedly threatened that he would teach a lesson to the hospital doctor by uploading the objectionable videos of patients on the social media.

Division No. 8 SHO Gurpreet Singh said one of the cameras installed by the hospital authorities caught Hardeep fitting and taking off the secret camera.
