Two persons were killed when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a speeding SUV near here today. They have been identified as Ruldu Singh (46) of Budhewal village and Gurbhej Singh (45) of Jandali, near Kohara.

The victims were going towards Morinda from Budhewal. When they reached near Ranwan village on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road, an SUV hit their motorcycle from behind. Passers-by rushed them to the local Civil Hospital where they were declared brought dead.

The investigation officer, ASI Piara Singh, said they had registered a case under Section 304-A and 279 of the IPC against the Fortuner driver, identified as Sanjeev Kumar of Rahimabad village, who had sped away after the accident.

Insensitive 108 ambulance staff

Some persons who had gathered on the spot alleged that the 108 ambulance staff refused to shift the victims to the hospital, saying that they ferry only injured, not the dead. Villagers arranged a private vehicle and both victims were taken to the hospital where they were declared brought dead.
