The police claim to have arrested two members of a robbers’ gang. They have been identified as Preet (21), a resident of Neta Ji Nagar in Salem Tabri; and Rahul Sharma, alias Jangli, a resident of Chandni Chowk in Salem Tabri. The police have also recovered two stolen bikes and as many mobiles from them.

The suspects were arrested by a police team near Mohalla Peeru Banda following a tip-off last evening. Gurpreet Singh Sikand, ADCP 1, said one of the suspects was an auto driver while the other was unemployed. “During preliminary investigation, the police learnt that the suspects had been involved in robbery incidents reported in more than six months,” said Sikand.

With their arrest, the police claimed to have solved four cases of loot reported in the city during the past few months. “The gang generally targeted migrant workers and women who proved to be soft targets for them,” said the ADCP1.

The police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC at the Salem Tabri police station and further investigation is on. The Salem Tabri SHO, Inspector Vijay Kumar, said the police had been questioning the suspects to trace other members of the gang.
