Theatrical items occupied the centre stage on the third day of the 62nd Panjab University Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival being hosted by AS College, Khanna.

Cabinet Minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli was the chief guest. Rupinder Singh Raja Gill, member, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, and Varinder Guddu, vice-chairman, market committee, Khanna, were the guests of honour. College principal RS Jhanji welcomed the guests and shared his views with performers and audience. In his address, Kotli motivated the students to work hard. He also announced the grant of Rs 5 lakh for the college. Souvenirs were presented to the dignitaries.

The third day of the youth festival was dedicated to one-act play, histrionics, vaar singing, kali singing, kavishri, debate, elocution, poetry recitation, muhavredar vartalap and heritage items such as phulkari, bagh, cross-stitch, knitting, pakhi designing and mehandi.

President of the college managing committee Shamender Singh, general secretary Barinder Dewett, college secretary Tajinder Sharma, Rajeev Rai Mehta, Manish Bhambri, Parmjit Singh, Major Sandeep Vinayak, Simmi Batta and TL Joshi were among those others present.

In bhangra, GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana, got the 1st position, GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, got 2nd and Government College, Hoshiarpur, and SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh, got the third position.

Giddha: AS College, Khanna, 1st; KCW, Ludhiana, and SGGS College, Chandigarh, 2nd; and Dev Samaj College for Women third. Ladies’ traditional song: Dev Samaj College of Education 1st; PGGC, Sector 46, Chandigarh, 2nd; Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, and GC Arya Mahila College, Abohar, 3rd.
