Man shot dead over property dispute; 5 kin booked

Baldev Singh (36) of Bakipur village, 15 km from here, was shot dead over the alleged property dispute in the family here on Monday. Five other members of the family have been booked under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act by the local Sadar police.

SHO Inspector Manoj Kumar said the accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh, elder brother of the victim, (Sukhdev’s) father Jagtar Singh, wife Ranjit Kaur and sons Amanat Singh and Manjinder Singh, had been booked.

The victim was a close aid of Khadoor Sahib MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki.

As the family was having a property dispute for which all members fearing a threat to their lives were residing in Tarn Taran city at undisclosed places.

The victim, Baldev Singh, along with his wife and other family members, had come to Teja Singh Wala village to attend a marriage function. He went to visit his fields alone where he was shot dead by the armed accused.

Baldev Singh was immediately rushed to the local Civil Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

The accused were armed with pistols and revolvers, said the SHO. The accused fled the spot in a vehicle parked already in their house.
