Mohali MC panel passes Rs 30L for masks, medicines

The Finance and Contract Committee of the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) today sanctioned Rs 30 lakh for controlling the spread of coronavirus in the city and providing food to poor and homeless in the city.

The decision was taken during the emergency meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee of the MC held today.

Mayor Kulwant Singh said Rs 15 lakh has been passed for the purchase of chemicals, medicines, mask and sanitary items. He said the MC Commissioner has been directed to ensure that the city should be sanitised, besides disinfectant should be sprayed in the villages and colonies on the outer periphery of the city.

Kulwant Singh said the sanitisation process will be carried out with the help of manual as well as mechanical machines such as sweeping machines and fire tenders. He said in addition to this, the MC has also passed Rs 15 lakh for providing food to the needy and the homeless during the curfew. He said the MC would also coordinate with four to five gurdwaras located in various areas and would provide ration for preparing food so that the needy persons could visit these shrines and eat food. He said the MC would also make announcement in the city, villages and colonies where the poor could get food.

Apart from this, teams have been deployed in the city for spraying disinfectant and Rs 5 lakh has been passed for this purpose.
