Congress president Rahul Gandhi today asked Seva Dal members to fight hatred being spread by the RSS with love.

“Wherever there is storm, violence, hatred being spread by the RSS, I want to see Seva Dal and its love there,” Rahul said during the national convention of Seva Dal at Kavad Vishram Sthali.

“Vo har subah, half pant pahankar lathi uthatein hain, lekin hame pyar or mohabbat se desh badalna hai (Every morning, they (RSS men) pick up their stick after putting up half pants, but we have to change the nation with love and affection),” he said.

“The Seva Dal was banned by the Britishers in 1927. The way Modi said ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’, Britishers also said ‘Seva Dal-mukt Bharat’. They did not ban RSS but banned Seva Dal,” he said, adding: “Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose were jailed for years but none of them sought apology from the Britishers, whereas VD Savarkar sought apology nine times because he had fear in him.”

“I was not averse to hugging the PM in Parliament. My love had suppressed Modiji’s feeling of hate. I observed that Modiji could control his feeling and got stunned. You see, how my love (hug) cut hate. Only love can scrap hate in one second,” he said.

Launches poll campaign in Gujarat

  • Rahul Gandhi sounded the LS poll bugle from the tribal-dominated Dharampur in Valsad, Gujarat, on Thursday, holding out promises of minimum income guarantee and simpler and cheaper tax rates than the GST

  • The party chose Lal Dungri village to launch the campaign as the venue is considered to bring good omen for the party. Indira Gandhi in 1980, Rajiv Gandhi in 1984 and Sonia Gandhi in 2004 had launched the campaign from the venue and captured power
