A head constable of the Telangana State Special Police allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at the farmhouse of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Siddipet district on Wednesday.

Police said A Venkateshwarlu, 38, posted as security guard in-charge at the farmhouse, shot himself in his right temple with a 9mm service carbine at around 10.30 am in the guard restroom.

Venkateshwarlu was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, Siddipet Police Commissioner Joel Davis told PTI, adding he committed suicide due to personal reasons.

He was a liquor addict and had recently undergone a de-addiction treatment and joined duty on September 29, the Commissioner said.

The head constable was on unauthorised leave for the past two days and it was on his wife's request to the duty officer he was taken back, Davis said.

On reports he was in an inebriated condition when the incident happened, the senior police official said "Whether he was drunk at the time of the incident will be known only after post-mortem."

The farmhouse is located at Erravalli. — PTI
