New Delhi, June 24
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday made light of accusations that he had a role in keeping 38 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs at a hotel in Guwahati and said, “all tourists are welcome to come to Assam.”
After participating in the nomination filing process of NDA presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu, Sarma said, “I invite everyone to come to Assam. Even Uddhav Thackeray should come.” Himanta said he could not close hotels of Assam if tourists decide to book and stay.
“Tomorrow if you want to book a hotel in Guwahati, should I say do not book because there is a federal structure in India. What kind of an argument is that?”’ Sarma asked commenting on Congress and NCP allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party was backing Sena rebels and rocking the boat of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.
“The longer tourists stay in Assam, the happier I am because my state’s economy gains,” the BJP leader said.
He also rejected accusations that he was busy hosting Sena MLAs while his state was reeling under floods.
“So what should I do? What mindset is this? Should I close hotels in Guwahati because some parts of Assam are flooded. Flood victims are being give relief,” he said.
