New Delhi, July 27
The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to take up a PIL seeking directions to the Centre to make the Law Commission a “statutory body” and appoint its chairperson and members.
“We will list the matter,” a Bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana told petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay after he mentioned the matter for urgent listing.
The panel, which advises the government on legal issues, has not been constituted since August 31, 2018, when Justice BS Chauhan’s term as chairman ended.
