The Health Department, a torchbearer for the Covid guidelines, was caught violating the guidelines itself here on Thursday.

Doctors and staff of the Community Health Centre (CHC), Model Town, reportedly celebrated a birthday party on the premises, thereby, violating the Covid guidelines.

Sources said attendees at the celebration, including doctors and the staff, were not wearing face masks and disregarded the Corona guidelines. The party was organised to celebrate birthday of a senior medical officer, the sources added. Ironically, the guidelines were reportedly violated in the presence of senior doctors. Moreover, a majority of the staff, which was present at the party, is working actively for Covid sampling.

A doctor of the Health Department, on the condition of anonymity, said, “Chances of cross infection are always there if high-risk people, like doctors, do not follow guidelines. Moreover, crowding should always be avoided at hotspots like hospitals.”

Meanwhile, the Patiala Civil Surgeon, Dr Harish Malhotra, said, “I will seek an explanation from the staff concerned over the issue. I will also write to senior officials in this regard.” — TNS
