Sangrur, June 25

A woman was burnt alive while her husband suffered serious burn injuries when their car caught fire on the embankment of a canal between Bhattiwal Kalan and Ghanaur Jattan villages under Bhawanigarh police station of Sangrur district.

As per information shared by area residents, Bikramjit Singh, along with his wife Simran Kaur, was going back to his native village of Khanpur from Patiala, where they had gone to buy medicines.

When they were between Bhattiwal Kalan and Ghanaur Jattan, the car collided with a tree due to some unconfirmed reasons and caught fire.

“Simran Kaur was burnt alive and died on the spot while husband Bikramjit suffered serious burn injuries. He has been referred to the Sangrur civil hospital. We have started further investigations,” said Pardeep Singh, SHO, Bhawanigarh police station.
