Bathinda, October 3

Residents of the Kamla Nehru Colony protested against the Municipal Corporation (MC) over “poor” sewerage and rainwater drainage system in the area.

Members of the rainwater drainage and sewerage action committee rued that owing to poor measures, the situation worsens even after mild rain.

They alleged that MC officials had been misleading residents as the latter were not ready to move a proposal for a drainage scheme. They warned that if a permanent solution is not devised, they will intensify the stir.

Santosh Rishi, a committee member, said: “The MC does not have any scheme for rainwater drainage and even sewers overflow after mild rain.”

MC Commissioner Bikramjit Singh said: “This colony is low-lying so the water takes time to drain. We are bringing a project soon wherein it’ll be possible to drain out rainwater at a faster pace.” — TNS
