Sangrur, June 10
Demanding the release of their pending payment of Rs 6.50 crore, sugarcane growers have been sitting on fast unto death outside the Dhuri SDM’s office since June 7.
“We had shifted to sugarcane from paddy after the Punjab Government assured us a better price. However, we have been struggling to get the payment of our sugarcane we sold to a local sugar mill in the last two financial years,” said Harjeet Singh Bugra, a protester. SDM Latif Ahmed said they had been working to ensure the release of payment. — TNS
