Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday assured to Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) of accelerating the process of construction of 25 railway overbridges (ROBs) and 14 railway underbridges (RUBs).

As per sources, Punjab PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla has formed a special committee under his supervision. The committee have identified 39 locations on various roads in the state where residents are facing problems due ever-rising traffic.

The department does not need any land acquisition nor it has been facing any litigation over the ownership of land on these locations and department could quickly start construction of ROBs and RUBs on these 39 points if the Centre includes these locations in the Centre-state sharing projects.

The roads, where ROBs and RUBs have been proposed by the PWD include Kartarpur-Kapurthala road, Aujala railway crossing-Kala Sangian road, Kapurthala-Subhanpur, Adampur-Bhogpur, Dhakki-Chakki Bank in Jalandhar, Pathanakot-Sujanpur, internal road, Baradari Garden, Patiala, Patiala-Dhablan road, Rajpura Yard, Dhulkot-Lalru, Lalru-Dappar, Dapper-Ghaggar, Ghaggar-Chandigarh, GT Road to Sirhind city via Khanpur, Sirhind-Morinda road, Bathinda city road, Mansa bus stand to railway crossing road, Ferozpur-Zira, Abohar-Sitoguno-Dabwali, Bathinda-Ferozpur Cantt, Amritsar-Khem Karan, Chugati on the Jalandhar-Pathankot rail track and Tarn Taran-Jandiala road.

“Our committee has identified 39 locations in Punjab where we do not need any land acquisition and these are without any encroachment and without any litigation. These locations qualify for the Centre-Punjab sharing project to construct ROBs and RUBs and we have submitted the list of all 39 locations to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday,” PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla confirmed to The Tribune here on Sunday after attending a function.

“If these locations are included in the Centre-state sharing project, both will contribute 50 per cent of all cost. Our team got a positive response from the minister, who took keen interest in our presentation and listened to us in detail. Hopefully, the construction of ROBs and RUBs on 39 locations will start in the near future,” said the minister.
