Mohali, November 28
Punjab State Commission for Minorities chairman Prof Emmanuel Nahar on Sunday called on Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and apprised him about the problems being faced by the community in the state.
Prof Nahar said the government should issue orders to the Deputy Commissioners of all districts that the minorities should not face any problems in getting their work done. “Also, the children of the community should be given education facilities up to Class XII just like SCs and STs. Moreover, the people who don’t have their own houses, should be given plots of 5 marla each,” he added.
Prof Nahar said the government should make such a law under which the security of the property of all the missions like churches, mosques and schools etc should be ensured. He said arrangements should be made to release the grant for the boundary wall and maintenance of the cemetery of the Christians and Muslims. He further said on the lines of the Centre, in Punjab also, minorities should be given reservation in jobs. — TNS
