A day after SAD Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa asked his MLA son Parminder Singh Dhindsa to stay away from the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal tried to downplay the issue, saying Dhindsa is “a father figure to me”.

“I respect him as my father. I have been meeting him regularly. I didn’t say anything which is against the party. The media is unnecessarily trying to make it a big issue,” he said.

Sukhbir today visited Bhadaur, Barnala and Mehal Kalan areas and interacted with party workers to get feedback about poll preparedness.

“The SAD core committee will soon decide the names of party candidates. I will not announce individual names as the party has a system for everything,” said Sukhbir, when asked about party’s Sangrur candidate. — TNS
