Chandigarh, October 21

Deputy Election Commissioner Nitesh Kumar Vyas reviewed the poll preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly polls at the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, on Wednesday.

Nitesh Vyas directed the CEO, Punjab, to closely monitor the first-level checking of EVMs/VVPATs going on at the district level. He also directed the election officials to systematically track and respond promptly on the complaints received through toll-free helpline number 1950 and pay attention to the training of booth-level officers (BLOs).

During the meeting, a brief presentation was made by S Karuna Raju, CEO, Punjab, highlighting status of preparedness. The current status of electoral rolls (voter list), rationalisation of polling stations, EVMs/VVPATs, training of all election officials, procurement of election material and law and order situation, etc, were discussed in detail.

Raju said necessary steps had been taken to ensure minimum facilities such as availability of ramp, water facility and toilets at all 24,689 polling booths in Punjab. — TNS
