Expelled Akali leaders announced the name of their new party—Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali)—on Sunday.

The name of new party was announced after ‘ardas’ at the Golden Temple.

Khaddor Sahib Member of Parliament Ranjit Singh Brahmpura will be president of the new party. Names of four other office-bearers would be announced later.

Brahmpura, Rattan Singh Ajnala, his son Amarbir Singh Bony and Sewa Singh Sekhwan announced they were going to launch a new party on December 2. Although finer details of the new outfit remains unknown, the leaders have already announced that the new party would be based on the Akali Dal’s old constitution framed in 1920.

All four leaders were expelled from the Shiromani Akali Dal for six years for “anti-party activities” last month, as was Brahmpura’s son Ravinder Pal Singh Brahmpura.  All five leaders had rebelled against SAD president Sukhbir Badal’s leadership.
