Chandigarh, September 16

Despite denial of permission by the Delhi Police, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced to go ahead with its march to Parliament and court arrest tomorrow.

It’s undemocratic

It is highly undemocratic of the Centre and the Delhi Police to stop our peaceful march to Parliament. We will go ahead with our plan to mark our solidarity with the farmers. — Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, SAD Spokesperson

Hisar: SAD chief Sukhbir Badal faced protest by farmers at the Mayyar toll plaza in Hisar on Thursday. He was on way to Delhi from Punjab. The protesting farmers accused him of double standards over the farm laws.

The SAD has announced to observe September 17 as “black day” on the completion of one year of enactment of three farm laws. Akalis plan to hold a march from Gurdwara Rakabganj to Parliament demanding repeal of three farm laws.

“This is highly undemocratic of the Centre and the Delhi Police to stop our peaceful march to Parliament. We will go ahead with our plan to mark our solidarity with the farmers, who have been protesting for one year now,” said SAD spokesperson Dr Daljit Singh Cheema.

He tweeted that the Delhi Police communicated about denial of permission earlier today citing fear of violence.

A large number of Akali workers have already reached Delhi. Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal will lead the march along with Bathinda MP and ex-Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
