Chandigarh, November 24

Education Minister Pargat Singh today asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to explain which education revolution he intended to bring in Punjab which had been the ‘cradle of civilisation’ since ages and had taught the masses how to read and write.

The minister said it was another cheap gimmick by the ‘rumour monger’ Kejriwal, who was not even aware of basic topography of Punjab. He said Kejriwal probably forgot about the fact that he was trying to mislead people on the same land where Vedas, Upanishads and other texts were written long before people knew how to read and write.

He said currently, Punjab ranked first in the National Performance Grading Index released earlier this year while Delhi was a distant sixth. On all parameters of education, learning outcomes, access, infrastructure and facilities, Punjab was above Delhi. Likewise, he said Punjabis had expressed faith in the government school system through increased enrollment in primary classes from 1.93 lakh to 3.3 lakh in the past four years. He advised Kejriwal to first ensure enough teachers for Delhi before worrying about Punjab.
